Abstract

For decades monthly somatic cell counts (SCC) have been used to assess udder health of dairy cows to classify cows as acutely or chronically infected, or not. However, with the introduction of technologies that measure SCC daily, dairy producers and veterinarians have access to information that is more current, but also more volatile. Is there a need to re-think our use of SCC?
