Abstract

In short, the goal of this laboratory is to provide APHIS with the tools needed to do the job of curtailing any incursion of FAD's into the U.S. The purpose of this article is to describe the tools we have available to control any outbreak that might occur in the U.S. today, the constraints on their use and new technologies that are being developed to enhance early detection, control and eradication. In describing these tools and technologies, it must be made absolutely clear that research can only provide options and that it is APHIS's mission to establish control policies. Nothing in this paper, therefore, should be taken to imply any change or alteration in any U.S. policy for FAD control now or in the future.
