Abstract

Investigations were carried out in 60 high yielding cattle to improve diagnostic tools in liver disturbances. 10 healthy cows were used to establish reference values, while another group consisted of cows (GML, n= 31) suffering from dislocatio abomasi sinistra with liver affections (elevated AST, GLDH, and bilirubine values) but clinical inapparent after reposition, and the third one (KML, n=19) as GML but clinical disturbed cows. The latter were divided into three units depending on the degree of clinical problems: 1) slight (n=9), 2) medium (n=6), and 3) severe (n=4).

In these animals blood was collected and in some cases CSF as well just before the operation and 3 or 4 days later. Herein aminoacids were measured to form the quotient between Valine+Isoleucine+Leucine and Penylalanine+Tyrosine (AA-Index). Ammonia concentrations were estimated too.
