Abstract

Control measures aimed at reducing the spread of and reservoir of mastitis infection are discussed. Special characteristics, diagnosis and control of Streptococcus agalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus are outlined, and the influence of Se and, possibly, vitamin E, upon resistance to mastitis is considered. Mastitis infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycoplasma are briefly described; these forms of mastitis rarely respond to antibiotics therapy.
