Abstract

40 of 80 cases of placental retention (more than 8 h after calving) in Holstein cows were left untreated and the other 40 were injected at 8 and 14 h after calving with 2 ml of a preparation of fenprostalene. This procedure reduced the number of treatments required subsequently for endometritis. The placenta was retained for 97 ñ 83 h in the treated group and 127 ñ 84 h in the untreated group. Intervals to first oestrus and conception were slightly shorter in the treated group.
