Abstract

This paper briefly discusses the management of dairy cattle, with particular reference to the following: feeding, and competition within the herd for feed and water resources, stress and how to recognise stressed behaviour in cows, and design of facilities (including milking parlours) to reduce stress and contribute to increasing milk yield.
