Abstract

The field of serology is changing at an incredible pace with the development and utilization of new technologies such as DNNRNA probes, in situ hybridization, restriction enzymes, and monoclonal technology. The value of the information gained from any serologic test however remains dependent on appropriate use and interpretation of the test. Serology when used correctly as a diagnostic tool in combination with other diagnostic information and procedures provides a valuable and reliable means of confirming or eliminating diagnoses, monitoring flock or herd health, and evaluating management practices.
