Abstract

In high yielding dairy cows, the determination of the ketone bodies in blood and urine for evaluation of the energy state, is not always a reliable method, though it can be helpful in dairy herd health management. Determination of Ca and Mg may also be a guide for eventual supplementation in pre- and post-partum diet. Cows suffering from abomasal dislocation were found to be in a state of insulin resistance of which the causes need further investigation.
