In a retrospective study, clinical findings of 158 cattle with bovine diarrhoea virus (BDV) infection were evaluated over a period of 6 years from 1986 to 1991. 65% of the animals had acute, 12% subacute and 23% chronic BDV infection. BDV could be isolated from 90% of the animals, whereas only 6% had virus-neutralizing antibodies. Most animals fell sick between 4 and 12 months of age. No seasonal peaks could be determined.
