Of 3692 cases of dystocia treated between 1968 and 1981, 131 involved uterine torsion. In 81 cases provided with detailed notes, torsion was anticlockwise in 59. Rotation was recorded in 54 cases. Of these 33 (61%) were 90-180 deg . When duration of labour was recorded, 63% were between 8 and 12 h, 21% were over 12 h. Cervical dilation was noted in 32 of 39 cases before and/or after treatment. There was no correlation with age in this study. Overall calf mortality was about 50%. Most common breeds in 107 cases were Holstein Friesian 71.5%, Hereford 11.2% and Charolais 10.2%. Methods of treatment are illustrated and discussed.
