A Comparison of high level intratracheal saline lavage and conventional routes of antibiotic administration in the treatment of acute bovine bacterial pneumonia

After diagnosis of pneumonia, 5619 cattle were given an antibiotic intratracheally. The results were compared with 1025 cattle given antibiotic intravenously, intramuscularly and subcutaneously. 93% of intratracheally treated cattle completely recovered and 2% died; 82% of cattle treated by the other routes completely recovered and 6% died.
